About the AAQ-II

The Acceptance and Action Questionnaire-II (Bond et al., 2011) is ACT’s standard measure of psychological inflexibility, seven statements rated on a seven-point scale. It is free to use and hosted by the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science.

What does the AAQ-II score mean?

Higher scores mean more psychological inflexibility: more struggle with inner experience getting in the way of living. Scores around 24 to 28 are where researchers see it begin to cost people, though cutoffs vary by sample.

How does the AAQ-II relate to Flex?

The AAQ-II is the validated measure; Flex is the card sort built from the same six processes. Use the AAQ-II if you want a number that means something in the research; use Flex if you want to know where to start.
